Will You Defend with Force or with Love? Choose Wisely.

Some Personal Work

So here is a little bit of my personal artwork.  This piece is from a series that examines the Tulsa Race Riots that occurred in the early half of the last century.  This drawing is mixed media and uses a combination of layers to create a smoky and more dirty effect.  I find the themes of destruction and conflict to be interesting ones, which is probably why I make work like this and help with  Defend the City.

Chris Leavens

Chris Leavens is a mighty fine illustrator.  His artwork is comprised mostly of vector images.  He has some great monster images on flickr.  Chris Leavens has a website that is pretty nice too.  We here at Defend the City give him a Golden Godzilla rating of 3 … (that’s good.)

The Golden Godzilla Scoring System

In order to better articulate our appreciation for all the awesome monster art the Internet has to offer we have come up with a scoring system with a symbol that best exemplifies what we look for in monster/robot/crazy/weird art.  Here’s how it works:

Robot Chicken. How I love thee.

Robot Chicken is the greatest thing since sliced bread.  Well… maybe.   It’s pretty darn great, anyway. The show is produced by Seth Green and is shown on the Cartoon Networks late night programming, Adult Swim.  It’s usually pretty funny, and pretty offensive.  Here are a couple of my favorite clips.  The embedding has been disabled so you should click on through to YouTube.

Glumps Are Not Slumps- They Move

If you find yourself outside Heart City, you may come across a Glump wandering the countryside. Politely wave and say hi, they are friendly and non-dangerous.  Don’t expect too much interaction from a Glump, though.  The are generally gloomy in disposition and move slowly.

Glumps

And, be careful not to offend a Glump by confusing them with a Slump.

Harvey Pekar has passed on this past Monday at the age of 70.  He was a comic-book writer, best known for his work with friend Robert Crumb, titled American Splendor.  He will be truly missed.

If you aren’t familiar with Pekar’s work, be sure to check out the American Splendor comic and movie.

PSA: Fire Power!

A fire broke out at the north end of Heart City around dusk last night.  After representatives from the Emergency Response Team and the Ministry of Heart responded around 8:15 PM it was determined that the resident had a Rubber Bunny infestation, and thought that smoking them out would be the best option.  Please remember, Rubber Bunnies hate water, not fire.
