It’s a bunny.

Yōkai Daizukai, an illustrated guide to yōkai authored by manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, features a collection of cutaway diagrams showing the anatomy of 85 traditional monsters from Japanese folklore. Wicked.

Finally got around to finishing my city-destroying monster. I have been adding to this drawing in my sketchbook since I got it back in June. This will probably change a little more. I would like to add a shadow under the monster… and possibly a few more touches of fire.
The other day I started thinking about what a school portrait would look like in Heart City. I always remember being frustrated on picture day because I had to make myself smile in an unnatural manner and hold it for longer then felt comfortable. I’m sure that the many young bunnies that populate Heart City feel my pain at the beginning of every school year.
So here is a little bit of my personal artwork. This piece is from a series that examines the Tulsa Race Riots that occurred in the early half of the last century. This drawing is mixed media and uses a combination of layers to create a smoky and more dirty effect. I find the themes of destruction and conflict to be interesting ones, which is probably why I make work like this and help with Defend the City.
Chris Leavens is a mighty fine illustrator. His artwork is comprised mostly of vector images. He has some great monster images on flickr. Chris Leavens has a website that is pretty nice too. We here at Defend the City hereby award Mr. Leavens the first PENCIL EATER Badge!

So originally we came up with the amazing Golden Godzilla Scoring System to highlight artists that we found to be especially awesome. But after some consideration we decided to create 4 Badges that represent all that is awesome on the DTC Art Blog. These Badges are awarded to those artists that represent the best of what weird crazy monster/robot art should be.
The BAMF The PENCIL EATER The ROYAL SKULL The PAPER KILLER
The BAMF or BAD A%@ MOTHER-F&^#$%!: Awarded to those artists that demonstrate mad skillz all around.
The PENCIL EATER: Awarded to artist that excel in all things digital. Who needs those silly pencils anyway when you have Photoshop and Illustrator.
The ROYAL SKULL: The highest honor one can achieve on our humble little Art Blog. All artists that receive this badge are royalty and we here at DTC humbly kneel in your shadow.
The PAPER KILLER: Awarded to artist that are so good, it makes the rest of us want to curl up and die. Amazing sketchbooks are a must to earn this badge.
Just having a little fun in the sketchbook. Feels good to draw something like this.
A fire broke out at the north end of Heart City around dusk last night. After representatives from the Emergency Response Team and the Ministry of Heart responded around 8:15 PM it was determined that the resident had a Rubber Bunny infestation, and thought that smoking them out would be the best option. Please remember, Rubber Bunnies hate water, not fire.
