Yōkai Daizukai, an illustrated guide to yōkai authored by manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, features a collection of cutaway diagrams showing the anatomy of 85 traditional monsters from Japanese folklore. Wicked.

Not gonna lie. I think this is pretty freaking awesome! Animation is by Michael Lubin.

Here is some work by Rowen Tedge. He has some really nifty iphone drawings. I am especially fond of these mouth variations. Dude has got some very cool stuff indeed.
The other day I started thinking about what a school portrait would look like in Heart City. I always remember being frustrated on picture day because I had to make myself smile in an unnatural manner and hold it for longer then felt comfortable. I’m sure that the many young bunnies that populate Heart City feel my pain at the beginning of every school year.
A good friend reminded me that it is Shark Week on the Discovery Channel! Hooray to the infinite power! Defend the City is a big fan. We’ve always thought sharks were wicked cool… Not to mention super scary. If you are a fan of these underwater teddy bears, and have basic cable, you should check it out. Shark week started on Sunday and runs through the rest of this week!
So here is a little bit of my personal artwork. This piece is from a series that examines the Tulsa Race Riots that occurred in the early half of the last century. This drawing is mixed media and uses a combination of layers to create a smoky and more dirty effect. I find the themes of destruction and conflict to be interesting ones, which is probably why I make work like this and help with Defend the City.
So originally we came up with the amazing Golden Godzilla Scoring System to highlight artists that we found to be especially awesome. But after some consideration we decided to create 4 Badges that represent all that is awesome on the DTC Art Blog. These Badges are awarded to those artists that represent the best of what weird crazy monster/robot art should be.
The BAMF The PENCIL EATER The ROYAL SKULL The PAPER KILLER
The BAMF or BAD A%@ MOTHER-F&^#$%!: Awarded to those artists that demonstrate mad skillz all around.
The PENCIL EATER: Awarded to artist that excel in all things digital. Who needs those silly pencils anyway when you have Photoshop and Illustrator.
The ROYAL SKULL: The highest honor one can achieve on our humble little Art Blog. All artists that receive this badge are royalty and we here at DTC humbly kneel in your shadow.
The PAPER KILLER: Awarded to artist that are so good, it makes the rest of us want to curl up and die. Amazing sketchbooks are a must to earn this badge.
Just having a little fun in the sketchbook. Feels good to draw something like this.
Robot Chicken is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Well… maybe. It’s pretty darn great, anyway. The show is produced by Seth Green and is shown on the Cartoon Networks late night programming, Adult Swim. It’s usually pretty funny, and pretty offensive. Here are a couple of my favorite clips. The embedding has been disabled so you should click on through to YouTube.
