Will You Defend with Force or with Love? Choose Wisely.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

So I saw Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on Saturday afternoon.  I have to say…this “epic of epic epicness”  is truly epic.  The movie was smart, funny, and visually interesting.  This film is based on a series of comics by Bryan Lee O’Malley.  It’s getting some mixed reviews, but overall I thought it was great.  It’s worth the trip to the theater for sure.

Robots + Unicorns = Happy

Yet another amazing creation born from Adult Swim.  Robot Unicorn Attack is the most addictive flash game ever.  Plus the song is pretty catchy.  I was introduced to this internet gem while making rounds at work.  I caught a couple of students playing it on the classroom projection podium.  After that… I was hooked.  You should definitely play… like now!

Propganda Posters by Dane Ault

Vader ENLIST by Dane Ault

DEFEND THE CITY is a big fan of propaganda posters in general, but these posters by Dane Ault were an especially nice find: RESIST Alliance SW and Vader ENLIST. The Star Wars propaganda subject is indeed rich.  Check out more of Dane Ault’s work on deviantART and on his website Monkey Minion Press.

Ingri Haraldsen

Ingri Haraldsen is an Norwegian artist that I stumbled across while looking through the Monster Mania pool on flickr.  She has got some really amazing stuff on both her website and her flickr photostream.  You should definitely check out both if you get a chance.

Toba Toba- Beautiful and Surreal

Toba Toba

I just ran across the work of the group Toba Toba on Design You Trust.  The piece above is from their installation work. Toba Toba was formed by Amelia Eguia and Julian Mantel, from Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Enjoy!

Smile for the Camera

The other day I started thinking about what a school portrait would look like in Heart City.  I always remember being frustrated on picture day because I had to make myself smile in an unnatural manner and hold it for longer then felt comfortable.  I’m sure  that the many young bunnies that populate Heart City feel my pain at the beginning of every school year.

Shark Week!

A good friend reminded me that it is Shark Week on the Discovery Channel!  Hooray to the infinite power!   Defend the City is a big fan.  We’ve always thought sharks were wicked cool… Not to mention super scary.  If you are a fan of these underwater teddy bears, and have basic cable, you should check it out.  Shark week started on Sunday and runs through the rest of this week!

Some Personal Work

So here is a little bit of my personal artwork.  This piece is from a series that examines the Tulsa Race Riots that occurred in the early half of the last century.  This drawing is mixed media and uses a combination of layers to create a smoky and more dirty effect.  I find the themes of destruction and conflict to be interesting ones, which is probably why I make work like this and help with  Defend the City.
